Nose Region (Nasal Region)

  In and on our body's head, the Nasal Region (Nose Region), featuring both the external nose as the organ protruding from the face which houses the nostrils that admits and expels air for respiration in conjunction with the oral cavity, and the nasal cavities, situated behind the external nose where resides the olfactory mucosa and sinuses, in which air passes through to the pharynx.

  In and on our body's head, the Nasal Region (Nose Region) functions are shared between both the digestive system, and the lower respiratory system.

The nose wrinkle is one of the facial expressions of the nose region associated with either irritating or offensive smells and, to some extent, bad tastes.

  In our body's viscerocranium region, the pair of Nasal Cavities (Nasal Cavity) are the proximal portion of the respiratory passages on either side of the nasal septum.

Nose, Nasal Cavities, & Paranasal Sinuses

  In and on our body's Nasal Cavity, the framework of the nose consists of bone and cartilage, in which two small nasal bones and extensions of the maxillae form the bridge of the nose, which is the bony portion. The remainder of the framework is cartilage and is the flexible portion, with a connective tissue and skin covering the framework, called the nose.

In our body, the floor and lateral wall of the Nasal Cavities (Nasal Cavity) are formed by the palatine bone.

Cilium (Cilia)

  From our body's cells, the cell surface extensions, Cilium (Cilia) are microtubule-based projections (hair-like) organelles extending from the cell body membrane of many of our cells.

Solitary cilia or sensory cilia are present in most cells of the body. All Cilia have a sensory cellular antennae that coordinate a plethora of cellular signaling pathways, that often function in locomotion.

  In our body's cells, Ciliary motility is caused by the relative sliding of the outer axonemal doublets, operating as two opposing sets, to produce the recovery stroke (or reverse bend), powered by adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and a set of molecular motors, the axonemal dyneins. **
