“Coughs (Cough Reflexes)”  

Cough

  In and from our body, a Cough (Cough Reflex) is the body process of a sudden, audible expulsion of air from the lungs through a partially closed glottis, preceded by inhalation and as a respiration dis-order may be a sign of many allergic dis-orders such as asthma (bronchial asthma), rhinitis (stuffy nose), anaphylaxis, and drug allergies.

In and from our body, a Cough may be a protective response for the respiratory tract, that serves to clear the trachea, bronchi, and/or the lungs of irritants (such as exogenous organic, thermal, and chemical irritants) and secretions, or to prevent aspiration of foreign materials into the lungs.

Coughing Event

  In and from our body, the Coughing event may be divided into the first phase, consisting of fast inspiration with an opened glottis, followed by compression with a closed glottis with an increase in tracheal pressure, and, ultimately, maximum expiration with an opened glottis. *

“Dry Coughs (Nonproductive Coughs)”  

  In and from our body, Dry Coughs (Nonproductive Coughs) are dry mostly nonproductive cough reflexes which does not produce any significant mucus.
  In and from our body, a Dry Cough (Nonproductive Cough) may occur when the airway passages gets irritated, such as in the initial stages of a cold or infection, where phlegm or sputum production has yet to begin. **

“Wet Coughs (Productive Coughs)”  

  In and from our body, Wet Coughs (Productive Coughs) are mostly a productive cough reflexes which do produce mucus, which may get expeled as phlegm (or sputum). **
