  In nature, Perilla frutescens is a species of flowering plants belonging to the Perilla genus in the Elsholtzieae tribe of the Nepetoideae subfamily in the Lamiaceae family (mint family) within the order of Lamiales.
  As a medicinal plant, Perilla frutescens is a fundamental herbs, exhibits relatively high antioxidant capacity in the leaf, seed, and stem, without a comparable phenolic content, used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). *
