Cytochrome p450 (CYP)

  In our body, the Cytochrome P-450 Enzyme System (Cytochromes P450) are a large ubiquitous superfamily of heme-containing monooxygenase or hydroxylase of the mixed function oxygenase group of cytochrome enzymes, that catalyze a multitude of reactions, involved in the oxidative metabolic activation and detoxification of an extremely wide variety endogenous and exogenous compounds.
  In our body, the p450 Cytochromes ("cyto" for cell, "chrome" for color) are all hemeproteins (heme proteins), while different, each of these enzymes share a common activity, that of adding oxygen (or otherwise oxidizing) the compounds that they modify.

In our body, the Cytochrome p450 (CYP) is a large and diverse hydroxylating enzyme system, that absorbs light of particular frequencies.
  Examples of cytochrome P-450 enzyme system (cytochromes P450) members include:

  In our body, the Cytochrome p450 (CYP) enzymes are present in most tissues of the body, and play important roles in hormone synthesis and breakdown, cholesterol synthesis, and vitamin D metabolism.
