Fragile Sites

  In cytogenetics, Fragile Sites are genome components involving the chromosomal regions susceptible to breakage, that appear visually as nonstaining gaps on chromosomes induced by specific cell culture conditions.
  Examples of chromosome fragile sites based on the frequency of fragile site induction, may be categorized as common or rare, then sub categorized by the inducer:

• common fragile sites
  • Aphidicolin induced fragile sites
  • 5-Azacytidine induced fragile sites
  • Distamycin-A induced fragile sites (Distamycin A induced fragile sites)
• rare fragile sites
  • BrdU induced fragile sites (Bromodeoxyuridine induced fragile sites)
  • Folic Acid induced fragile sites (folic acid induced fragile sites)

“Rare Fragile sites”  

  In cytogenetics, the Rare Fragile sites are the uncommon possible fragile sites in the chromosomal regions susceptible to breakage.
  Examples of rare fragile sites include:

• BrdU induced fragile sites (Bromodeoxyuridine induced fragile sites)
• Folic Acid induced fragile sites (folic acid induced fragile sites)
