L-Ascorbate (Ascorbic Acid)
In carbohydrate science, Ascorbic Acid (as L-Ascorbate), a six carbon compound, is a weak sugar acid structurally related to glucose, that naturally occurs attached either to a hydrogen ion, forming ascorbic acid, or to a metal ion, forming a mineral ascorbates.

In our body, Dehydroascorbate (Dehydroascorbic acid), a diketogulonate lactone, is a readily and reversible oxidized form of ascorbic acid (vitamin C, ascorbate) and both forms exist in equilibrium in the body.

L-dehydroascorbate
Dehydroascorbate (Dehydroascorbic acid) is actively imported into the endoplasmic reticulum of cells via glucose transporters. Dehydroascorbate (Dehydroascorbic acid) is trapped therein by reduction back to ascorbate by glutathione and other thiols.

Therefore L-dehydroascorbic acid is a vitamin C compound much like L-ascorbic acid. The (free) chemical radical semi-dehydroascorbic acid (SDA) also belongs to the group of oxidized ascorbic acids.
