  In our body, Heme (Ferroprotoporphyrin) is the pigmentation portion of hemoglobin, found free in tissues and as the prosthetic group in many hemeproteins (heme proteins).

Heme Group

  In our body, the Heme Group is a prosthetic group consisting of a protoporphyrin ring and a central iron (Fe) atom. The protoporphyrin ring is made up of a tetrapyrrole (four pyrrole rings) linked by methine bridges. Four methyl, two vinyl, and two propionate side chains are attached. *
